The Public Services Department includes the Reference "Ask Here" Desk, 19+ computer terminals for searching indexes/databases, current journals and newspapers, corporate annual reports, business services, newspaper indexes, abstracts, index tables, Quick Reference, Texas college catalogs, telephone directories and the Reference collection.
The Public Services Department has developed a Library Liaison Program to better serve the needs of the faculty whether it be collection development, coordinating Library assignments, research, specific tours, or adding to the Library's website of Gee Library Subject Resources.
"Ask Here!" The person at this desk will help you with finding materials, use of LION, and any reference questions you may have. This desk is staffed all the hours the library is open.
The local area network contains twenty terminals with various indexes to databases in different subject areas. Some of the databases provide citations to journal articles and others provide the full-text article. You may select an index from the on-screen list. Printing to a laser printer is available using the Uniprint card.
The Newsbank indexes provide subject access to newspaper articles on microfiche. The indexes for the years 1984-1995 are on index Table #3. The microfiche for the previous years are in the Microforms Department on the second floor. Newsbank is now available on the LAN terminals with full-text articles from newspapers around the country. (1996-) Texas News File provides access to full-text articles from various newspapers from around the state. It is available on all the LAN terminals.
The Library now makes a listing of the journals we currently receive available online: Current Journals. It will also indicate any access to journals via our Internet Databases. You can check our holdings via the online catalog: LION.
You will also find the current/back issues of the newspapers. Papers that are not kept on microfilm are kept for 3 months and then are recycled.
The current issues of periodicals are also located in Reference area. They are arranged alphabetically by the title of the periodical.
You will find the print copies of the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature, Education Index, Social Work Abstracts and Sociological Abstracts on the Index Tables. Please note that in early 2001 all other print indexes have been sent to the Main Stacks.
In early 2001 most print abstracts and indexes that are available electronically were moved either to remote storage or to the upper floors. Remaining abstracts, Social Work Abstracts and Sociological Abstracts are now located on index tables.
The West window shelving area is where you can find the Stock Reports, Moody's, Tax cases, reports, and laws.
This file contains annual reports from numerous corporations, You may check out any of these reports at the Reference Desk. You may also locate Corporate Annual Reports in the database Hoover's
